Today was my first trip on the full course for IM CDA - both loops! First loop took a little longer than I anticipated…two wrong turns (back to back - but didn’t lose too much time), thought I got lost on the roads-to-the-cabins in Hayden (which, might I add, has a mile section that is a gravel road and goes downhill! WTF City of Hayden?! I hope you finish your repaving project soon!) and I missed a two-ish mile random around the block portion before heading back to the start.
It was overall, a pretty great day for the ride…started a little after 7:00am and the first part of the course takes you around the North end of Lake CDA. The water on the lake was glass today…so I said a little prayer that it would be this nice (although like 15 degrees warmer) on race day. Mid-70s by noon or so, so it got a little hot and I did sunburn my forearms from being in aero all day. At the end of loop two, I got caught in this random cloudburst downpour and got soaked. My bike and I were filthy by the time I made it back to the car.
The main lesson from today…stop being a baby on the hills! I seriously, seriously underestimated the hills in Hayden - those f-ers are steep and way more than I expected there to be. Oh well…today was a good lesson.
