Race #4 for 2010 was this last Sunday. A 25K trail race in Riverside State Park. The weather was perfect for the event…last year it was pretty cold, so it was nice for the sun this year.
It was a big weekend for my bike…I took it to a tri-bike shop in Spokane for a real fitting. It was pretty intimidating, until the end when the bike tech realized I was going to do IM CDA in June - then it went a lot smoother and he was much nicer. (I ride a Trek road bike…they don’t carry Trek’s and I got a lot of stare downs by other customers when I first got to the store. Boo to them. Me and my bike do just fine thank you very much!)
With the new bike fit, I took my bike for a 50 mile ride from Spokane to CDA on Saturday to test everything out. The new fit is going to take some getting used to - they raised my seat just a smidge (my knees are excited!) and lowered my handlebars about an inch or better - my lower back was pretty sore by the end, but I held a good pace and killed the negative split, so I was glad for that! :)
Anyway, I underestimated the effect my ride and new bike position on the next days race. The race went fine and no problems to speak of….although I did puke when we got back to Josh and Josh’s house - only because I drank too much water too fast after finishing. I did anticipate a better finish time vs. last year, but that didn’t happen. Oh well. It was a good long run and no injuries/blisters/etc. so a success in my book.
This weekend is a race rehersal ride - 1 hr swim, 4 hr bike, 1 hr run…time to start testing out everything to be ready in 10 weeks!
